The boab tree is an important tree found in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, and it symbolises my connection to Country. We eat the boab nuts and soak them in water to make a medicine to treat colds and coughs. We also engrave marks and images into the surface of the nuts to tell the stories of our history and culture. I learnt boab carving by watching my elders when I was a teenager and I kept going from there. Carving is an important part of my art practice. I also carve wooden tools, sculptures, and ceramic boab forms. Recently I have been learning woodcut printmaking. I like how my images turn out on paper.
