For five years this plum tree stood outside the studio in Melbourne, a crumbling reminder of the issues of water and climate, An introduced species, it struggled through dry summers, then – once the leaves were gone – seemed brittle and strained, as though the sudden weight of some rain might cause it to dissolve into the ground.
