The microcosm – a world hidden from view – is a place of beauty, danger, deception and intrigue. To appreciate a broader world than our own, to confront our fears, maybe event to see beauty in unpleasant things, we must be liberated. In life, it’s the little things that count.

Special viewing instructions: This print incorporates a phosphorescent pigment that is charged by sunlight, black light (UV), or artificial light. Allow a minimum of 10 minutes for effective charging. The work has two states and is to be viewed in both daylight and the dark for full effect.

My current practice explores and questions ideas about social, cultural and historical inherited gender stereotypes. The images used are sourced from toys, games, models and references to childhood from my own collection.
One such toy is a model plane of the Enola Gay. This screenprint, sourced from the box, shows an image of young boy happily clutching his toy plane. The surface of the print is embossed with images of the nuclear weapon that was dropped on Hiroshima.

Conduit is a meditation on receptivity. This image is a metaphor for the external influences that shape an internal dialogue. The rhythmic swirls, drips and dense fog that encase the ear branch allude to the challenging task of processing in a maelstrom of information.

Process Capsule Ezri, Day 1 belongs to an ongoing series of digital prints where my goal is to compress a particular process in time on/into a 2D surface (the capsule).
Using Adobe Photoshop software as a printmaking tool, the image is made up of hundreds of fragments of 76 digital photographs by Longin Sarnecki as its source material. Process Capsule Ezri, Day 1 is an ‘archive’ of the first three days of a drawing performance titled Dust Cover Ezri.

The images in The Flowers of Romance series function ironically, taking a sideswipe at the end of human suffering and attainment of enlightenment depicted in Buddhist mandalas. The ‘flowers’ of the title are not just beautiful but deadly, adapting the masculine iconography of a single weapon of war into an apparition of organic beauty.

This work portrays a seemingly frozen event that deals with displacement through the use of otherness as a mechanism of protection, inclusion, exclusion, isolation and connection, It attempts to re-contextualise the viewer’s association with its hybrid subjects by provoking inquiry about how we receive, perceive and imagine physical otherness.

This work is about movement and change. All is in flux as the earth slowly tilts, and we are swept along in the current.
