Through a Black Mirror documents a walk around Lake Guy at Bogong Village with a Black Mirror (a small, convex mirror used by artists and tourists of the 18th and 19th centuries to get a more condensed, less detailed view of the landscape). By using this device I could take in a macro view in front of me while returning the larger, landscape view behind me in the lens. Images such as these were described by Thomas West in 1778 as able to as able to ‘admit a field large enough for the eye to take in at one sweep’.
