Brisbane visit

Thanks to Brisbane printmakers and supporters for hospitality and showcasing such a range of print activity in your city during the last weekend of May. During the visit PCA staff and Committee were privileged to visit the Impress Printmakers' studio at their Camp Hill site. Impress President Jenny Sanzaro-Nishimura and Councillor Knapp also showed us their soon to be fitted out new home at the Kedron Sub-station. We also visited the newly equipped Myrtle Street Studios, an impressive studio and exhibition venue in the Grange. That evening we attended a closing event for the collaborative exhibition On Paper at the QCA Project Gallery. The exhibition featured new and strong works by artists from Impress Printmakers and the QCA Print Club. Saturday presented an opportunity to view a selection of artist books from the Collection of the State Library of Qld. Senior Librarian, Helen Cole, is thanked for making this possible. We also attended the opening of Judy Watson's Heron Island Series of prints at Grahame Galleries + Editions, where we were lucky enough to have an artist talk by Judy. It's well worth visiting the gallery to see this exhibition. Finally, on Sunday the PCA held its 2010 AGM and Committee Meeting at William Robinson Gallery at QUT. Thanks to Gallery Director Stephen Rainbird for hosting this event and for providing a guided tour of the Gallery and its current William Robinson exhibition. Brisbane city is thriving, as is its print community. Visiting Committee members and staff were thrilled to see the breadth of print activity and collecting that is occurring there. In addition we were able to meet new and old members and friends. Damian Kelly, 8 June 2010
