Expressions of interest for IMPACT 7

Call for Papers and Proposals

Monash University invites artists, curators, print studios, writers, academics, collectors, students and industry to participate in IMPACT 7: Intersections & Counterpoints.

We are calling for:

  • Papers and themed panels
 - individuals and groups (e.g. print workshops, universities, artists) can submit a proposal to present a conference paper, or to convene and chair a panel discussion centred around a theme of their choosing. The duration of each paper presentation and session will be advised upon notification of acceptance.
  • Individual and Group Exhibitions
(At Monash University). If you have works that you would like to put forward as part of the curated exhibition component of the conference, then submit a proposal for consideration by the Steering Committee. If your submission is accepted, the works will be exhibited within the Faculty of Art and Design building together with all other approved submissions. Upon notification of acceptance, you will be advised whether you need to amend your proposal to fit your allocated space. Exhibition period is for the duration of the conference only.

  • Individual and Group Exhibitions in Victoria (via the Print Council of Australia).
If you have an exhibition that you would like to put forward as part of the broader component of the IMPACT agenda, then submit a proposal for consideration for inclusion in the "Month of Prints" promotional material (being coordinated by the PCA). All submissions from Victorian artists and venues will be considered for inclusion if they are substantially print based. Your proposal must include artists and mediums, venue and locations and at least one image. Exhibition period is for at least the duration of the conference and ideally will be the two weeks before and two weeks after (12 Sept - 10 Oct).
  • Academic Poster Presentations.
This section is an informally grouped presentation in a designated room, and is literally a poster produced by you that is pinned up on the wall behind a small table, which promotes your particular research project. You then stand next to it and speak about the work, as it is described in an abbreviated form in the poster, to whomever walks by and is interested. You would probably have your laptop with you to show visuals. This is not a curated event. Duration of this event is to be confirmed.

  • The Open Portfolio section is the same informal group set-up as the Academic Poster Presentation. However, instead of a poster, presenters must brought along a portfolio of their work for visitors to flip through, or a laptop that displays their images. It provides an overview of someone's artistic oeuvre and skill rather than focussed one specific research project. Again, you will need to be there with your folio/laptop to speak to people as they wander by. This is not a curated event. Duration of this event is to be confirmed.

  • Master Classes and Workshops organised by the Print Council of Australia, in association with Monash University. For international conference delegates who are interested in sharing their expertise and artist practice, we can provide the opportunity for you to do this as well as seeing Australia's beautiful countryside. Below is a list of arts venues interested in hosting master classes and workshops throughout the State of Victoria before and after the conference days:

    Australian Print Workshops, Fitzroy
Arc Yinnar, Gippsland Artery Co Op
    Castlemaine Studios (Private Studios)
    Chisholm Tafe, Frankston
    East Gippsland Aboriginal Arts, Bairnsdale
    Elke's Books, Hurstbridge
    Firestation Print Studio*, Armadale
    Geelong Gallery, Geelong
Hunt Club Community Arts Centre, Deer Park
    Lancaster Press, Brooklyn
La Trobe University, Bendigo & Bundoora
    Maroondah Art Gallery, Ringwood
    Victoria University, Melbourne
    Walker St Gallery, Dandenong
  • Demonstrations and Workshops incorporating or related to printing from any discipline (with an emphasis on new and unusual techniques) will be open to the public and held throughout the conference period on campus. These will be listed on the website in due course.

For further information on the conference theme and topics, and submission guidelines and deadlines, please refer to www.impact7.org.au or for Print Council of Australia adminpca@netspace.net.au.
